SIMPLY INSPIRATION: Karen Willis Holmes, Succulents + Cats

Today's wedding inspiration board is dedicated to one of my best friends who shall remain nameless. That being said, I used one of our favorite Karen Willis Holmes gown that literally is screaming her name with its soft lace and long sleeves. We are so excited to have this designer's collection at our shop... this collection is truly one we fell in love with at bridal market last fall. We will have these dresses at our shop from October 18th through 25th!! To come in and check out the entire collection call us at (912)200-4794, e-mail us at ivoryandbeau@gmail.com or click here!! THOUGHTS TUESDAY #3: Bridal Gown Shopping Timeline

We are here on the blog today to talk about bridal gown shopping timelines. I think that this is by far the most common misconception among brides. But I mean it makes sense... buying a wedding dress isn't something you do everyday so how would you know about how long it really takes to get your dress and the why behind why it takes so dang long. So we are going to give you some insider insight and we even have some of our designers who chimed in!!

ORDERING TIME: Our dress designers take an average of 4-6 months (16-24 weeks) for a special dress order.

ALTERATIONS: All dresses will need alterations, unless you are an unusually lucky bride who is a 5'10 and a perfect sample size and even you might need alterations. Maybe not a hem or anything taken in; however, what about a bustle? Unless your dress doesn't have a train or you have a reception dress you are changing into after the ceremony you are going to want to bustle your train. A bustle is "a type of framework used to expand the fullness or support the drapery of the back of a woman's dress." The most common bustles we see are the French bustle (under) or American bustle (over.) Our alterations specialist prefers to have 2 months for alterations to be complete. This allows her to have multiple fittings with each bride. The first fitting is to go over what needs to be done and pinning. The second fitting is to make sure everything looks good and to see if there are any changes, which often times there are. The final fitting is scheduled 2 weeks before your wedding to make sure everything is perfect and this allows for any final adjustments to be made. Any less than 2 weeks is really pushing it... Plus you are going to want to get that dress steamed so that it is as wrinkle free as possible on your big day.

PRODUCTION SCHEDULE: When you order a dress that does not mean your dress is started on immediately. We got some insight from our accessories designer, Jaclyn Jordan, who used to be a sales consultant at Lovely Bride in New York City. Jaclyn said the biggest thing is there are steps that occur once an order is placed. First, it gets put at the end of the production line. Then materials are allocated or purchased. Fabrics are cut and sewn. Item then goes through quality control. After all these steps it then is packaged and shipped to the store. So it's important to realize there are countless other bride's orders that are also being worked on and processed. In addition, with larger designers the dresses are normally cut in size groups. So say you order a size 4. Maybe at that time they are working on size 10 not size 4 and the size 4's won't be worked on for another month or even two months. This is how designers keep production costs down. Once your dress is cut it's not all made in a day. There are many steps required in the construction of a good quality dress... from the corset, to the beadwork, to the draping... these are all details that make a dress what it is and this takes time, quality control, multiple people, etc.

BRIDAL ACCESSORIES ORDERING TIME: Our accessories designers take an average of 2-4 months. That being said, all of our accessories designers also offer custom designs. These can take even longer. Designers need to source and find the appropriate materials, fabrics, beads, etc. to make your piece. Again, they are probably not just working on your accessory but others as well. Then once the final product is complete they need to check it for quality.

All that being said... we do have some samples we would be willing to sell off the floor but it is a very limited selection and if you are not the right size then alterations can cost an arm and a leg to alter that dress to fit you perfectly. So, all in all our recommendation is that you purchase your wedding dress 8-9 months before your wedding. This will ensure a stress-free bridal gown shopping experience and a stress-free alterations experience. No need to add more stress to your wedding planning..!!! This is supposed to be a fun experience and the last thing we want is a bride worried her dress won't get in on time or having to spend hundreds in rush fees to have their dream dress on their wedding day. Hope these suggestions help and feel free to pin our easy board to help you when shopping for your dress!!

1. Sexy silhouettes. We are pretty in love with these form fitting beauties. And the peekaboo side lace? I want that in my life. Love that detail and how funky and unique it is.

2. We just love low backs and open backs. So many of these gowns feature gorgeous back details.

3. Bohemian dresses are our favorite. And these dresses are perfectly bohemian. We love love love. The lace details, the soft flowy fabrics are so perfect for the bride who wants to look boho on her wedding day.

4. Not just are there bohemian inspired gowns but we love these Grecian goddess dresses so much. And now we really want to go to Greece and get married on an island. Now that would just be amazing. Don't you think?

SIMPLY PUBLISHED: {Burnett's Boards} 12 Ways to Accessorize Your Wedding Dress

I must say today if we are being completely honest that today started off a little rough. The morning started like every other weekday morning but then once I realized that today I am on my own at the shop without Adrienna I got a little sad. It's crazy when I stop and think about how much of a team we are and how much I just really enjoy being a team. But I must say... seeing our bridal lookbook published on Burnett's Boards made it all better!!! This shoot was photographed by Izzy Hudgins of our entire beginning inventory that we opened shop with so its an extra special shoot. Michelle Royal did hair + makeup on our beautiful models and the funky accessories are all from Apricot Lane!! Anyway, be sure to head over to Burnett's Boards to see the entire shoot!!! We love bridal separates. Like really really love. So today we had some fun at the shop mixing and matching bridal separates together to make several different looks. We started with this adorable short mini gold sequin dress from Pure Magnolia and just started adding on the layers for several fun bridal looks!! We will have Pure Magnolia's gowns through Friday May 9th! If you are interested in coming in to check out the collection call us at (912)200-4794, e-mail at ivoryandbeau@gmail.com or click here!!

SIMPLY PUBLISHED: {Storyboard Wedding} Modern Southern Belle Brides

So excited that our southern belle brides styled shoot was up on Storyboard Weddings yesterday!!! This was such a different aesthetic than what we normally style so it was a lot of fun to be a part of. Rach Lea contacted us about doing a very southern styled shoot and we of course said sure. We had three models, Alison Epps of Alison Epps Photography, Sarah Tollerson a local singer and friend Jenn. Alison rocked a Faith Thornburg gown with a Twigs & Honey sash. Sarah wore bridal separates by Rebecca Schoneveld with a Faith Thornburg headpiece and Jenn wore a Sarah Seven gown. We also used some gorgeous veils and headpieces from Jaclyn Jordan. We styled the shoot at Woodlawn Plantation using Fancy Plates vintage china + Dot & Army napkins and decor accessories from Simply Southern. The cake was made by Rum Runners and the flowers are by Urban Poppy. Huge thanks to all the vendors who participated!!!! And to our models who were freezing cold but still looked beautiful with thanks to hair/makeup artist, Allison Barlow!!! Go on over to Storyboard Wedding to check out the entire shoot!!!

SIMPLY BUSINESS: Introducing Alison Uzmann

Hello fellow wedding lovers!  I am Alison, an intern here at Ivory + Beau, and this is my first blog post (ever).  I want to give you all a taste of my girly wedding style.  I am a true coastal southern gal so there is nothing better to me than frills and all things nautical!  Fittingly enough I am having my own real wedding this coming spring where I get to bring this vision to life!  Think milk glass and cobalt blue vases; bridesmaids in pale pink; toile, polka dots and stripes (my fiance will be wearing seersucker, y'all!); and cotton and navy pansies in the bouquets.  So much prettiness to happen!

And if you love the gorgeous Elaya Vaughn ball gown shown below, you can see the dress in person at our shop!  You can even try it on!! Come on, you know you want to...

Eeeeek!!!! Today we are featured on Storyboard Wedding! This was our first styled shoot with our inventory from our boutique!! When we received our bridal accessories from Hushed Commotion we decided we wanted to do something funky and fun with them even though we didn't even have any bridal gowns yet!! The shoot featured a gold birdcage, a gold headpiece, several sashes, Adrienna's handmade furry vest + a holiday inspired bouquet made with help from Shelby + Alison, our amazing interns. We contacted Heather of Beyond Beautiful about doing a mini shoot that used our bridal accessories in a way that showed how bridal accessories can be used even after the wedding. Mackensey Alexander captured our model showing a few different looks at the gorgeous Ships of the Sea Museum. Thank you everyone who helped out + especially the model who was probably freezing cold while modeling for us! And thank you so much to Jessica at Storyboard Wedding for featuring our mini shoot!!!!!!

DESIGNER REVEAL #6: Elaya Vaughn

You may know the designer behind Elaya Vaughn if you are a Project Runway fan! Kate Pankoke, (who recently got married, and we were lucky enough to be her day of coordinators!!) has taken her love for fashion and carried it into her bridal line. When we went to market, we knew we had to check her stuff out, especially since we would be helping with her wedding! Her gowns are so feminine, and feature beautiful structure, flowing fabrics, and exquisite beadwork. The first gown we got into the shop was her gown Marlo, and we SCREAMED with excitement! It is just so effortlessly beautiful. We are also one of three retailers in the USA that will have her dresses, so it is exclusive to us in the south!

DESIGNER REVEAL #5: Faith Thornburg

Hope you all had a fabulous Christmas!!! We are back today sharing more of our designers that will be available in our shop after the opening on January 11th!!! Anyway, going to SCAD, I heard about Faith from my beading teacher, Sam Norgard. (Mrs. Norgard is the one who got me obsessed with beading, so a huge part of my thanks is to her!) Anywho, Sam told me about Faith, so I checked out her designs prior to opening the shop. So when we went to NYC to look at dresses, I knew I wanted to check her out. Her dresses are beautiful, and the fact that we get to support another SCAD Alumni is so important to me, I love supporting local talent.

DESIGNER REVEAL #3: Sarah Seven

Today we share our first bridal gown designer + we think ya'll are going to love this one!!!!! When we first started talking about opening a boutique, the first designer I KNEW we had to have was Sarah Seven. Everything she makes is perfectly feminine with a hint of vintage flair. Her signature draping and soft fabrics are perfect for a Southern bride. Her gowns flow, and have a special lightness and effortlessness about them. It was SO hard to pick the first set of her gowns we would carry, but after narrowing it down at market we were able to pick our top favorites that we know you will fall in love with too! [Image of the bride below with the bouquet in her face is from a styled shoot we did with Sarah Seven's "Golden Lights" gown with Memories n More! Follow us on Facebook to see when we share the rest of the shoot!]

SIMPLY BRIDAL: Something Blue Bridal Gown

Ladies. Get excited. We are soon to be the only bridal boutique in Savannah with a blue wedding dress. Yes you heard me correctly. Blue. Something blue. When we saw this gown at Bridal Market in New York, Adrienna + I just knew we had to have this blue one. When Adrienna placed the order with the designer, who shall remain unnamed until the big reveal, the designer was like are you suuuuure... it comes in ivory tooooooo. Obviously Adrienna said no way, show us the blue. Well, she probably said it in a nicer way I'm guessing? Adrienna is pretty nice. Just saying. But anyway, we ordered the blue and we could not be more excited for it. It's so pretty and soft and romantic and pretttttttty. And we just loved how non-traditional it was. Now, we don't have any of the something blue dresses as seen below, but trust me when you say our something blue dress is beautiful and we know you will love it!!! Anyway, what do you think? Loving the blue as much as us or what???

SIMPLY BRIDAL: NYC Bridal Market + New Savannah Bridal Boutique

Golly it's been hard for me to get around to blogging this past week for 2 reasons: 1. we have been so crazy busy finishing up last minute details for the October weddings + 2. no wifi at my house means no late night blogging sessions. But anyway, I am back now writing this post now on quite possibly the most fun business trip ever. It's funny when you are in college and you envision what your life will be like and then 4 years later you're somewhere completely different then you could have ever imagined doing something you would have never ever thought you would ever be doing. That's how this business trip was for me. It was like I was living in a dream. This is not real life. I am not really in New York City. I am not really talking to some of the best bridal designers in the world. I am not really about to buy not one, not two, not even four, five or ten bridal dresses but actually thirty. I am not staying at a ridiculously trendy hotel where there is a robot that stores your luggage for you. I could continue this list with other things that didn't feel real but I don't want to bore you too much. Soo... anyway, I don't know if Adrienna felt the same way, but that was definitely how I felt, like this was not really happening and like this was not possibly my life but someone else's life I'm just watching from above. But the thing is... this is real life. And we were talking with some of the best bridal designers in the world. And we were about to buy about thirty bridal gowns. And there actually was a robot that stored our luggage for us...

While at Bridal Fashion Week we met with several bridal designers, out of which we chose our four favorite fits for Ivory + Beau. I am not going to reveal our designers yet but we know ya'll will love them just as much as we do. These ladies are so talented and so incredible. All in all we will have about 40 dresses to start with, 4 designers + 5 collections along with 2-3 accessory designers (that is in the works now). So like always, I love to share sneak peeks of what is to come without revealing everything! Here are some snapshots of our time in NYC! Hope you enjoy!

{BIG REVEAL} Ivory + Beau

It is crazy to think this little dream of ours was first talked about last June while heading to St. Augustine, FL for the styled shoot shown below and that now this dream is a reality. It still doesn’t fully feel real, but it is. Here we are on a plane to New York City and this is real, 100% real and 100% happening.

So rewind back to the beginning... when I first moved to Savannah I got a part-time job at David’s Bridal and I worked there while being an assistant for Layla and continued to work there after purchasing SSE. At David’s Bridal I met Adrienna, a Fibers SCAD student from Ohio. About a year after working there she got a job at La’ren Belle and left David’s Bridal. For those of you who don’t know, La’ren Belle was another boutique in town. Lo and behold, La’ren Belle closed due to personal reasons and was shut down very quickly without much notice. Shortly after that Adrienna was re-hired for her position at David’s Bridal and talk began of re-opening the boutique.

I’m the kind of person who only needs one little seed. One little idea. And I’ll grow it. Into a tree most likely. Especially when I have someone who is as excited about it as Adrienna. I mean seriously this girl is amazing. She is just as hard of a worker as me and she dreams big, ya'll. So this little seed that Adrienna planted percolated for about one month until we decided let’s go for it. You only live once right? What do we have to lose? So we got down to work and said let’s try this. Let’s make this happen.

Hours spent writing and designing a beautifully branded 30-page business plan that is filled with appendices, images, custom-made Kraft paper tabs and washi tape and we were approved for our loan on September 26th, 2013. I'm not kidding when I say it is a beautiful business plan... we may just have to share it with y'all later because it really is gorgeous. So with the approval of our loan, Ivory + Beau was born and now we are sitting on a plane to the big apple where we will be purchasing our inventory for the new shop, which will be located at 7302 Abercorn St. Suite #1B Savannah, GA 31406. And we could not be more excited!!!!!!!!!!!

So without further adieu, I’d like to introduce formally Adrienna, the mastermind behind this idea and my new business partner!! She has been working in the bridal industry for four years in boutiques, shops, and has her own small bridal and millinery accessories company, Ava Mae Designs. Originally from Ohio she now lives on the islands with her boyfriend and her cats. She loves cats. I mean really loves cats. That’s probably why we get along so well. I mean, let’s be real, I love cats too. Well, mostly just Tigger. Anyway, she is a total sweetheart and has been so amazing to work with! I don’t think I will ever cease to be amazed at the ridiculous ways she pronounces Savannah street names, or the organization of this lady. You guys are going to love her I Just know it.

Now for all of you are who are wondering, what does this mean for Simply Savannah Events?! Well, let me tell you…

The new boutique will be a wedding planning + bridal boutique that offers wedding planning packages and the bridal gown. We want to have a laid back, fun, and exciting environment for brides while shopping for their gown. No stuffy bridal shop here... we want every part of the wedding planning process to be amazzzzzzzing and whimsical and exciting and adventurous. We want to inspire brides when they walk into our store to push the limits and themselves outside of the box to find a beautiful dress that not every bride is wearing... something that truly shows their personality! We are excited for this ya'll... REAL excited.

Some changes you will notice around here:

1. Simply Savannah Events will now be part of Ivory + Beau, a wedding planning + bridal boutique. Our name will be changed everywhere! Follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

2. New website coming soon! Blog link will stay the same.

3. Instead of only getting posts from me, Adrienna will also be blogging, Facebooking, and Instagramming. Well, maybe not Instagramming. She likes to post pictures of cats. I told her that’s prohibited. Only on her personal Instagram... but I really can't talk since my feed is filled with Tigger...

NOW… Giveaway time!!! We are so excited to have reached over 1,500 followers on Facebook and as promised we would do a giveaway as soon as we reached that goal!!! So if you are a bride-to-be enter below!!! And if you're not a bride-to-be well... tell your friends who are brides-to-be to enter below!!!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Stay tuned for more details to come on the designers we choose to have in stock!! We cannot wait!

Last but not least, I just have to say thank you for all the support from friends, clients, vendors + family! This could not have happened without ya'll (especially clients!) Ya'll are the BEST. xo, Nicole Rene.

P.S. Huge shoutout to Rach Lea of Rach Lea Photography for taking the photos of us for our website at Southern Pine Co. and even huger shoutout to Lindsey Wirht for making us over!!
