FLOWER RECIPE: Winter Fragrant Bouquet

Today here with a new blogging post series focused on something I absolutely love... flowers. Its funny how the things we are passionate about change as we get older. When I was younger I did not really care much about flowers. When boys in high school would give me flowers I would throw them away. Now I look back and shake my head at my worthlessness as a snotty teenager. Because now I am so beyond passionate about flowers. I love them. They make me so excited. I want to be around them. I pay attention to them outside. I cherish them. They are just so wonderful. When I go a few months without getting to play with flowers I get sad and antsy. I start to miss them. I love getting to experiment with flower combinations and I love more than anything getting to make bridal bouquets that are funky, wild, creative and different from your traditional bouquet. I like unusual shaped bouquets that are fluffy with poky things coming out of every nook. That's the good stuff. So today I am here to talk about the flower recipe of this winter bouquet that was by far the most amazing smelling bouquet ever. I do not even lie for a second about that. This bouquet was made for our bride, Kathleen, who recently was married last winter to husband, Brenden, at Greene Square with the reception following at The Brice

The combination of eucalyptus + dried lavender + cedar sprigs is the perfect combination for a winter fragrant bouquet that smells heavenly. Enough said.

{STYLED SHOOT} Winter Rustic Shoot at Brockington Hall

It's crazy to me that I'm just now getting around to blogging this winter rustic styled shoot considering this photo shoot took place in the dead heat of the summer... This shoot was so much fun to be a part of!!! My favorite part about this shoot was that the hanging centerpiece installation was actually inspired by my living room one night... I have a furry sheepskin rug with a ghost table on top of it with a brown tray with antlers as handles + was inspired to turn that into a centerpiece and so this shoot was born. Everybody thought I was crazy for hanging those acrylic planks over the table but oh my gosh I was so happy that it worked and didn't fall over + collapse!!! Thank you to Melissa + Lee at Brockington Hall for letting us take over their venue again for the day!! Rach Lea did an incredible job capturing all the details! The bride, fellow wedding photographer, Amanda Nicole Miller, was made up by Dollface by Jules and dressed in a gray Vera Wang for David's Bridal wedding gown. She also rocked a furry jacket by Adrienna McDermott, of Ivory + Beau. Kiwi Fleur made the pretty bridal bouquet + the adorable little floral halo for the flower girl and Art POP Balloons provided the large tassel balloon. The dessert table was filled with a cake by Lulu's Chocolate Bar, macarons from Maison de Macarons, and chocolates from Cholatat by Adam Turoni with a vintage cake stand from Lillian's China. This shoot was also featured on 100 Layer Cake! Thanks again to all the vendors who made this happen!!!

SIMPLY BRIDAL: Gray Gowns

I love colored wedding gowns. Kind of obsessed. From blue to pink to gold, they add such personality to the bride, and show off her unique spirit. But what about gray? It's cool, flattering on all skin tones, and is perfect for the winter. I mean what would look better in the snow then a cool silver and gray dress? (Especially if it has sparkle!) And when you look at the photos below, look at how well it photographs! With so many shades, from soft white to a deep charcoal. Divine! So when you're looking for a dress, that's not white or ivory, think gray!

xoxo,
Adrienna

SIMPLY INSPIRATION: Antler Love

Sooo... I have a love affair with antlers. I mean realllllly big love affair. They are my favorite. And my vendor-love-friends know it so much that when brainstorming a new styled shoot with a vendor friend she told me no antlers Nicole. Because she knows I love them. And she knows I would obviously try to find a place to squeeze them in. So anyway, now that it's finally fall... here is some antler love for all you fellow antler lovers out there.

SIMPLY INSPIRATION: Pacific Northwest

This week my dad is in town helping me during the house hunt. Being around my family always reminds me of where I come from... and so today's inspiration is all about exactly that. Like how we went from some Southern wedding inspiration from yesterday to the rainy northwest! Maybe someday Simply Savannah Events will travel back to my hometown to work at a gorgeous wedding surrounded by pine trees and mountains. Until then, I will just ooh and aah over this inspiration, which is also sort of making me sad that I won't be spending the holidays in the beautiful northwest. But I can't complain because instead I will hopefully (fingers crossed) be moving into a new home with my love bug!!

{Bright Idea Thursday} Winter Weddings

I know that December, January and February are slow wedding months, but Savannah, Tybee Island, and Hilton Head Island are beautiful during those months and you should take advantage of the slower months. Plus get AWAY from the cold weather and come SOUTH for the winter. Contact me for our discounted winter month rate!!

Even though it hardly ever snows here, down south, you can still have a fun Winter Wedding. Or have a Valentine's Day wedding in February or New Years Eve wedding. OR ELOPE!

Menu ideas:
You can have all of your favorite food but add some winter touches like a squash dish, or warm pumpkin soup. Consider serving eggnog, spiced wine, or hot chocolate (alcoholic or non-) as special treats. Look for an all-white cake, decorated with silver embellishments, or sugar sculptures. Greet your guests with warm coffee or hot chocolate as soon as they come in the ceremony or reception site.

Flower ideas:
Decide whether you want to go for a silver and white elegant look, or celebrate the season with reds and greens. For those who like silver, look for dusty miller, silver-dollar eucalyptus, and baby blue eucalyptus, mixed with white flowers such as roses, football mums, crocus, lilies and stephanotis. If you're looking for a brighter bouquet, consider red roses with holly and pine-tree greenery. In season flowers such as tulips, roses, and ornamental berries generally will be less expensive choices. (Talk to your florist, as your region may have different availability)
Decor ideas:
Fill the room with light by arranging pillar candles on a bed of pine branches At the after-Christmas sales, stock up on strands of small white lights, then string them decoratively around doorways, over tables and on archways. Bright red cranberries in a bowl surrounding floating candles make an easy and inexpensive centerpiece. Or, decorate a pre-made gingerbread house for each table, and center it on a bed of greenery with candles around it.

Favor ideas:
If you and most of your guests celebrate Christmas, an ornament makes a perfect favor. An inexpensive homemade favor is a pretty tin of spiced hot chocolate mix or hot cocoa mix with marshmallows. Also consider a snow globe, with a bride and groom inside, or a holidaycookie cutter with a cookie recipe attached that says your names, wedding date, and "truly cut out for each other".

Peak wedding season falls between May and October in most of the U.S., says Richard Markel, the president of the Association for Wedding Professionals International. During that time, most wedding vendors -- including caterers, photographers and limousine companies -- charge the most because their services are in demand. But in the winter, business comes to a standstill, especially in the northern regions hit with particularly harsh weather, and engaged couples have more room to negotiate for lower prices. (December weddings aren't as cheap because banquet facilities give priority to recurring customers: conventions and companies planning holiday parties.)

Hot chocolate, hot apple cider and tea are all suitable for the alternative cocktail hour. Set up self-serve stations to save on the costs of hiring servers. Create separate stations for the different beverages. Place the hot chocolate packets and tea bags in containers next to the appropriate beverage dispensers.
