SIMPLY PUBLISHED: {Desiree Hartsock} Perfect Winter Touches

You guys. I am so freaking excited to share this. I am going to be real for a minute and tell you that it is no secret that I am a secret Bachelor/Bachelorette aficionado. I love the show so much. And I love following my favorite contestants after they have been on the show so when I saw Desiree Hartsock's blog I just was so excited and wanted to be on the blog big time. And yesterday, that dream became a reality. Our Winter Rustic Styled Shoot at Brockington Hall photographed by Rach Lea Photography featuring a hanging antler installation by us, a fun cake by Lulu's Chocolate Bar, a bouquet from Kiwi Fleur, and really fun balloons from Art POP Balloons. Other treats were provided by Maison de Macarons and chocolates by Cholatat by Adam Turoni. And some vintage rental pieces from Lillian's China. Last but not least, the fur wrap is a handmade piece by our very own co-owner, Adrienna McDermott. Anyway, huge thank you to all the vendors who participated in this shoot and huge thank you to Desiree for featuring our shoot!!!! :) Head on over to her blog to check out the entire feature!

SIMPLY PUBLISHED: {Southern Bridal} Vintage Bethesda Styled Shoot

So excited that our styled shoot photographed by Lone Pine Photography was featured on Southern Bridal last week!! Tori of Ever Thine approached me about helping out with this shoot and it was really fun to be a part of and if I remember correctly it was seriously freezing outside... Anyway, the shoot took place out at Bethesda Academy and was styled by Tori with her vintage rentals. I helped with putting together an escort card display and setting up. A to Zinnias provided flowers and the dress is from J'Adore Bridal & Formal and is a Justin Alexander dress. The lovely ladies over at Dollface by Jules did hair & makeup for the model Emily E. Hammond. Last but not least desserts were provided by Gigi's CupcakesHolli's Cakes and Maison de Macarons. Oh yeah.. that just reminded me this was that one shoot where I ate about 20 macarons and 17 cupcakes and had a serious sugar high. Oh wait no... that's every shoot. Ha, anyway, hope you enjoy and head on over to Southern Bridal to see the entire shoot!!!

{STYLED SHOOT} Unholy Matrimony

I must say this is by far I think the most badass shoot we have ever designed + styled. I cannot in the least take credit for all of this because this was an amazing collaboration between Adrienna, myself + our freaking awesome and super creative interns, Alison Uzmann + Shelby Bittinger!!!! This shoot honestly started as a rockabilly shoot that my friend Rachel Thomas was to be modeling in + one day while crafting in the boutique we were talking about wanting to not do rockabilly but something dark and different. And with that a shoot with a theme loosely described as "weird animals, dead skulls, badass, rock and roll, and funky" was born + seriously huge thank you to Rach Lea for being down to photograph this without having even a clue what we were up to and also to Sean McNally at Cinemobius for capturing this shoot on video!!!

And with that we scrounged around town for the coolest skulls + decor pieces and were super pumped when Graveface Records + Curiosities and Paris Market were willing to lend us some awesome nick nacks, such as a taxidermy fox, lots of skulls, cool animal coffee mugs... And Alison even searched her parent's house for some funky elements and brought us awesome small glass vases in deep shades of purples + reds and some more skulls. Alison + Adrienna put together the florals using lots of funky floral pieces such as purple leaves and twigs. All these weird funky pieces sat atop a table linen made out of spanish moss. Each place setting included DIY plates by us with silverware from Paris Market. For our bride, Rachel, we knew we wanted her in something funky and the asymmetrical hem dress by Faith Thornburg was perfect with one of our Twigs & Honey veils. Her faux hawk with brides was done by Milan Day Spa and her makeup by Lindsey Wirht-Jones. Simon's Formal Wear dressed up our groom, Alex, in suspenders, a top hat + bow tie... his dog even got a bow tie too. Snake did not get any attire though... we figured it was cool err scary enough by itself? Hmm... anyways. Lulu's Chocolate Bar made an AMAZING naked chocolate cake that was so ridiculously delicious I can't even describe this cake in words. Think chocolate + blackberries + goodness + heaven + oh my gosh can I eat cake from Lulu's Chocolate Bar every single day? But seriously. Our intern, Shelby, designed the awesome invitations with the fox + fox butt... and my favorite, those fox masks. And to answer the question I know you are dying to ask... yes, we listened to What Does the Fox Say during this photo shoot. Thanks again everyone!!!!!!

{STYLED SHOOT} Winter Rustic Shoot at Brockington Hall

It's crazy to me that I'm just now getting around to blogging this winter rustic styled shoot considering this photo shoot took place in the dead heat of the summer... This shoot was so much fun to be a part of!!! My favorite part about this shoot was that the hanging centerpiece installation was actually inspired by my living room one night... I have a furry sheepskin rug with a ghost table on top of it with a brown tray with antlers as handles + was inspired to turn that into a centerpiece and so this shoot was born. Everybody thought I was crazy for hanging those acrylic planks over the table but oh my gosh I was so happy that it worked and didn't fall over + collapse!!! Thank you to Melissa + Lee at Brockington Hall for letting us take over their venue again for the day!! Rach Lea did an incredible job capturing all the details! The bride, fellow wedding photographer, Amanda Nicole Miller, was made up by Dollface by Jules and dressed in a gray Vera Wang for David's Bridal wedding gown. She also rocked a furry jacket by Adrienna McDermott, of Ivory + Beau. Kiwi Fleur made the pretty bridal bouquet + the adorable little floral halo for the flower girl and Art POP Balloons provided the large tassel balloon. The dessert table was filled with a cake by Lulu's Chocolate Bar, macarons from Maison de Macarons, and chocolates from Cholatat by Adam Turoni with a vintage cake stand from Lillian's China. This shoot was also featured on 100 Layer Cake! Thanks again to all the vendors who made this happen!!!

SIMPLY INSPIRATION: Antler Love

Sooo... I have a love affair with antlers. I mean realllllly big love affair. They are my favorite. And my vendor-love-friends know it so much that when brainstorming a new styled shoot with a vendor friend she told me no antlers Nicole. Because she knows I love them. And she knows I would obviously try to find a place to squeeze them in. So anyway, now that it's finally fall... here is some antler love for all you fellow antler lovers out there.

{MAKING THINGS HAPPEN} What fires you up?

So this is another post I have been planning out in my head for probably a week now. I guess sometimes life gets the best of me and I run out of time to blog + instead sometimes I choose sleep, which obviously is not a bad thing to do considering lately I have been feeling slightly under the weather. But that's besides the point because I'm sure you don't want to hear about my runny nose + ear wax...

Last night I completed Part 1 of Making Things Happen Goal Setting (you can read that post here). So the 3rd step in part 1 was writing about what fires you up, and I listed off several things that get me excited but I want to expand on that a little more because I think this is really important in what inspires me to be a wedding & event designer. I can't think of much that makes me more fired up and excited than a wedding or engagement session that is not just pretty but that tells a story. Of course I love the pretty don't get me wrong, but when you can inject a part of your relationship, personalities, what you like to do together into your wedding and make it unique and have it really scream, _____'s & _____'s wedding! I mean that is some awesome stuff. That is what I strive to do while helping bride's and groom's design their perfect wedding. Because that is the wedding that you and your guests are going to remember afterwards.

Now after my blabbing on about what makes me fired up... I want to challenge you future brides and grooms to get creative (or if you hire me then let me get creative for you but you have to help). I challenge you and your fiance to really try to hone in on what makes your relationship special and unique. Here's some questions to get you going...

1. What do you like to do? Together and by yourself?
2. What do you love about your fiance?
3. What things fire you up? (This can be anything really... gold spray paint? ghost furniture? garden roses? Taylor Swift? anything & everything that makes you smile, makes you happy, makes you excited for life.)
4. How did you meet?
5. Where was your first date?
6. What is one of your favorite memories together?
7. What movie do you love to watch together?
8. When and where did you know you loved each other?
9. What was your best vacation together?
10. How did he propose?

See... the answers to these questions might just reveal how you can make your wedding unique. Say for example your fiance loves to brew beer, so why not have home brewed beer as favors for your guests. Or say your favorite movie you guys watch together is James Bond, so why not have a James Bond themed movie? Or what if you both knew it was true love while camping at Lake Tahoe, insert camping themed wedding at Lake Tahoe. Etc. etc. etc. These are not real examples... But I mean I would be so down if some clients came to me and said okay we want a James Bond themed wedding. Now for picture time of things I love that fire me up!!!

I know, lots of randomness but lots of things that make me happy and inspire me. Including two things we did: our geometric garland for our last shoot at the Jepson Center and the antler escort card display I designed for our styled shoot two days at Whitefield Chapel in Savannah!!! That was a real labor of love... tying up those antlers and making sure they're the perfect height using fishing line and a ladder was not easy. I almost fell off that ladder twice since the ground was uneven and I got that fishing line so tangled up in that tree it isn't even funny. Well it kind of is really funny... But anyway, hope this inspires some of you brides and grooms out there to get personal when coming up with how you want your wedding to look!!! Have a great Wednesday everyone! Part 2 of my goal setting coming tonight.

SIMPLY INSPIRATION: Pacific Northwest

This week my dad is in town helping me during the house hunt. Being around my family always reminds me of where I come from... and so today's inspiration is all about exactly that. Like how we went from some Southern wedding inspiration from yesterday to the rainy northwest! Maybe someday Simply Savannah Events will travel back to my hometown to work at a gorgeous wedding surrounded by pine trees and mountains. Until then, I will just ooh and aah over this inspiration, which is also sort of making me sad that I won't be spending the holidays in the beautiful northwest. But I can't complain because instead I will hopefully (fingers crossed) be moving into a new home with my love bug!!
