SIMPLY BORROWED: New Years + Sarah Seven Golden Lights

We love New Years, not only because it's Adrienna's birthday and she is super awesome, but because of sparkle! It's the perfect day to wear glitter and not be judged! If we could wear Golden Lights by Sarah Seven every day, we totally would. So when photographer Marianne Lucille came to us saying they were doing a New Years shoot at Cohen's Retreat, we knew the perfect gown! Golden Lights is 1/3 sparkle, 1/3 romantic and 1/3 FUN! We love all of the ideas Emily Fogarty + J Leslie Wedding Decor came up with, from gold balloons to the striped invitations, to the sequin linens. Cohen's Retreat is the perfect backdrop for every wedding and party, it transforms with every theme. This shoot is so fabulous, it was featured on Style Me Pretty this past New Years! THOUGHTS TUESDAY #9: Gold is the New Silver

While working at David's Bridal it was silver, silver, silver and more silver. But at Ivory + Beau we have been seeing a whole new trend and that is that brides lately are loving gold. And with that we have decided that Gold is the New Silver and we are loving it. I don't mean obnoxious yellow fake looking gold but rather a pretty and subtle gold, which shines, shimmers and looks stunning on. Proclaimer before reading on... I promise these dresses we are showing you do have a golden tint but it is very very subtle and very very difficult to find an image online where you can see the real detail and the beauty of these gowns. They are just ones you have to see in person to really be able to appreciate the detail and the golden shimmer. 1. Gold lace, gold sequins, gold beading, we love it all. We have 3 dresses that we consider gold: this lacy golden shimmer art deco inspired gown from Rebecca Schoneveld, this soft whimsical golden buttery Sarah Seven dress with gold threaded lace, and our Golden Lights all over sequin Sarah Seven dress which comes in both long and short. I know it is kind of hard to tell from these images that they have a gold shimmer but they really do and they really are some of our favorite dresses that brides too are loving.

2. Forget silver based accessories... gold is where its at. We are loving these bridal headpieces and sashes that use gold instead of silver. They stand out so much more when paired with pearls and bling than the traditional silver. Plus there's just something about gold that fits the vintage, soft and romantic bride where as silver is for the Cinderella traditional bride. Twigs & Honey makes the prettiest gold hair vines adorned with pearls and swarovski crystals and don't even get me started on how much I love their gold bows. And Hushed Commotion has an awesome gold birdcage that I am seriously obsessed with. That's not all though, we have way more in the shop that we love love love. SIMPLY INSPIRATION: Sarah Seven Golden Lights

One of our favorite dresses is Golden Lights by Sarah Seven. This dress is covered in gold sequins, and the classic Sarah Seven bodice with a sweetheart neckline and corset top. We loved seeing it The Not Wedding Savannah, and this beautiful image by Mackensey Alexander captures it so perfectly! It has the perfect balance of sweet and fun, and brides have been loving it in short too! (It's makes an amazing reception dress!) Golden Lights looks stunning among the twinkling lights of an evening wedding, with hanging cafe lights and gold glitter.

{BRIDAL SHOW} The NotWedding

This past spring was our first time being a part of non-traditional bridal show, The NotWedding. This was the very first NotWedding in Savannah and so it was awesome to be in!! The Not is a completely different experience from any other bridal show. It is an alternative show in the form of a big fake wedding. Attendants to the show are treated as wedding guests who sit through a ceremony (vow renewal with a real couple), a dinner and a dance party reception. It gives attendants the chance to experience wedding vendors in action. For The Not we participated not just as a bridal boutique but also as event designers. The bride rocked a lacy-organza Sarah Seven gown for the ceremony & then changed into a sequin gold Sarah Seven dress for the dancing and reception portion of the evening.

For the design portion we were responsible for decorating 4 of the reception tables and we chose to do the ceremony backdrop. For our tablescapes for the reception we designed two different setups. The first being a perfect fit with The Not's mood board they sent all of us vendors with a soft petal taffeta ivory linen from Ultra Pom and gold sparkly centerpieces with large textured floral arrangements. Our second table design was more "us." It fit our aesthetic and was a little more unusual and quirky. We used sequin linens from Ultra Pom with DIY triangle runners with mini yellow bottles and tiny greenery. The best part about this table design was the Bells of Ireland chandelier... which you can watch a video on our instagram of us hanging these here (quite entertaining if I do say so myself.) For both of our tables we borrowed Dot & Army napkins and tied them into pretty bows. Now for the ceremony... for this we painted 5 canvases with floral print. Once finished we looked at them and I literally said "I hate these." Not kidding. You can ask Adrienna. I truly hated them. Like truly truly truly. I said this just will not do. These are just too... "pretty girl." I wanted to tear them into shreds. While Adrienna absolutely loves all things girly and floral print (not saying I can't appreciate a good floral print but I just could not be okay with our ceremony being this girly) I am the one who likes stuff a little more modern, a little more funky and a little just not that girly. So we scavenged our store and finally came to the consensus it needed gold spray paint and geometric shapes. And with that, our ceremony backdrop was complete. I could totally get on board with the floral print as long as they were un-girlified just a little. And if you ever visit our shop, you will see these large canvases now hanging behind our desk. And I love them oh so much now. I guess just another example of how our design aesthetic for everything we do is a combination of our styles, tastes and when it is complete it fits with "us." And then we are both happy and all is right and well within the world of Ivory + Beau.
