I'm going to be completely honest... I was not sure if I was going to post my thoughts regarding same-sex marriages, but the second I got home + turned on the TV it was all over the news and I decided I think it is important that I post my thoughts and opinions.
So first off, a little background on me. I grew up in Portland, Oregon, which if you don't know is a very liberal environment that is very open and respectful to the LGBT community. I attended the University of Puget Sound, which has a very active gay and lesbian community and I believe I read somewhere that my college is one of the top schools in the nation for LGBT. Call me a hippy if you may, but I am very accepting of all people, and I truly believe love is the most important thing. I also find it silly that some people care so much and so strongly about what other people are doing or want to do that makes them happy. I mean I'm not saying go out and do a bunch of drugs because it makes you happy, but I mean why do we care so much if people want to do something that makes them happy and is not harmful to anyone? It doesn't affect anyone but the couple involved. So what if they can't make babies? Aren't there millions of children out there in need of a loving home? I'm pretty sure there are. So why do people feel the need to try so hard to prevent people from making the ultimate commitment of love to one another? Wouldn't we be better people if we tried to make things a little easier for others? Doesn't it make you feel good when you can do something to help someone else? Doesn't it make you feel good when you can do something to help make someone happy? I know for me there is no better feeling in the world than when I can help make someone happy. And if that means helping put together the best wedding ever for a gay couple, then what do you care?
While watching the news tonight I loved this quote by Reverend Gene Robinson, the Episcopal Church's first openly Gay bishop. "At the end of the day, God is love. So look at our relationships, look at our families and tell us if you don't see love there. If love is there, then God is there." And of course every post has to end with some awesome wedding inspiration...
