Memorial Day 2012

Happy Memorial Day Everyone! Did you know it was "formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the fallen Union soldiers of the Civil War. (Southern ladies organizations and southern schoolchildren had decorated Confederate graves in Richmond and other cities during the Civil War, but each region had its own date. Most dates were in May.) By the 20th century Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died in all wars. Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. As a marker it typically marks the start of the summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end". source

I would like to take a moment to honor those who died in war and also hug someone who has survived war and help fight for our freedom. My husband was deployed two times and is very humble about his sacrifice, and he gets embarrassed when people thank him about his service. Also in my family we have some interesting stories of those who have been to war, but that would be a looooong story. So instead I would like to thank my family members who have passed that did serve, thank all y'all out there who have served, and thank everyone who is currently deployed! Enjoy your long weekend!
Here are some fun printables for you to save and use at your BBQ.

Of course we must use a Jamie Oliver recipe since he is one of my favorite chefs. This is a great refreshing recipe for infused water for those who will not be drinking at your BBQ.

I'll also be baking my delicious strawberries and rhubarb pie of course!
recipe for the pie, but I use the BHG pie crust recipe

Just for fun! silly dogs
